Concordia University Partners with META for Online Mental Health Counseling Services

BUFFALO GROVE, IL – META, the nation’s leading digital mental health platform for schools, has partnered with Concordia University, St. Paul (CSP) to offer online counseling services for all students, including those attending campuses in Boise, Portland, St. Paul, or online.

META gives Concordia students access to more than 300 licensed and vetted mental health providers, including counselors, therapists, psychologists, and psychiatrists. To further encourage students to take care of their mental health, CSP is paying for the first five sessions for any student who uses META. Students can continue to pay for therapy using their insurance, or pay out-of-pocket.

“We believe that access to student mental health services is an essential part of supporting our community,” said Rev. Dr. Brian Friedrich, President of CSP. “META empowers our students to seek the guidance they need to navigate the many challenges that face this generation. We prepare young adults for a life of service to this world. Emphasizing the importance of mental wellness helps strengthen our students’ emotional resilience.”

Students download the META app, choose a counselor, and receive chat, video, or voice counseling through the privacy and convenience of their smartphones. Students see on the app if counselors are available online for immediate connection, or students can leave a chat message to schedule a future session. META enables students to filter providers by a variety of characteristics, such as location, ethnicity, and faith so that students can find a provider who understands their cultural heritage.

Mental health issues among college populations are a growing concern, especially since the coronavirus pandemic. A recent survey conducted by META found that 84 percent of college students are struggling with stress and anxiety caused by COVID-19. Social distancing requirements have made teletherapy a necessity for staff and students to protect themselves.

By partnering with META, CSP receives a robust mental health program, complete with self-service content directed at students and an ongoing awareness campaign promoting students to take care of their emotional and mental well-being.
